Ok I have Redhat 7.2
got the new configure stuff working
upgraded Imagemagic 5.4.7
prog 4.4.4.1 w/nad27 1.1 - so far so good
libTiff 3.6.6 would not compile
libTiff 3.5.5 compiled
When compiling libgeotiff 1.2.0 
I get
declaration error on TiffFieldMergeInfo
so I cannot get geotiff installed.

I followed the README.1ST to the letter.
