One of the important things to remember is the fact that a family
member in a search is not the "user" of the software. The search
participants are. 

All of the "fitness of use" standards and such are for the user. I
don't see how you can put ANYTHING binding on a family member who is
not a user. 

It looks like this is just one of those risks taken on by anyone who
provides equipment and such for SAR operations! Up your liability
insurance and go!
