Thanks for all the help gang, (especially Tate, that got me over the hump at
least.) Still have some problems but am working on it slowly. Guess I still
have to download all those libraries, cause I got error messages when I
tried to config. (stuff wrong with the Magik lib) so I decided to do a fresh
install of Red Hat 8 and start over. (after looking at all the bug fixes and
updates Ida had to run 1 at a time for 7.2!) no, I didn't want to pay for
red hat support. So last night I downloaded the 5 cd set of images for
RH8.0, will burn them to cd and try the install on the Linux box tonite.
Then hopefully download and install all those libraries needed for Xastir.
Probably have more questions for you all then! <grin> But here's one to keep
things going: As I said, I am using a KamPlus with v8.2 firmware, connected
to com1(serial) port on computer. Will I have to write a tnc file or what
exactly? (I read something in the readme about a tnc start and a tnc stop
file) Can anyone provide a bit more detail?

Note to Curt: The reason I downloaded the 1.1.0-i386 file initially (and the
reason it shows so many DLs on SourceForge I bet) is it's the first file
listed as "stable" and it has that "i386" architecture in the file name.
That i386 part is listed in my RedHat book as being one of the things one is
supposed to look for when looking for files that are compatible with Red
Hat. I'm sure other newbies like me have come to the same conclusion.
Does Linux follow the convention that the "stable" file is the OR
(Official Release) version and the other ones are alpha and beta versions or
should I just DL the newest release from SourceForge?

Thanks again. Sure hope to get back on APRS soon...
