Where do I find links for all the packages that are needed to install
Xastir. Last week I spent some time trying to install a few simple common
programs that needed to be compiled, this is my first real attempt to use
Linux. My main problem is that I would get reports of missing packages but I
am not a "linux" person yet and all of these messages were a loss for me.

I have installed RH8 fully, I mean everything but apparently still missing
other things.

You need the ImageMagick-devel package installed. Then run configure
again.

Even without the optional map libraries installed, you'll have
dosAPRS, WinAPRS, pocketAPRS and GNIS maps working just fine.
