[Xastir] interfaces

is the xastir code set up in such a way that i can write my own
"interface"
i'd like to add an option to the interfaces list.
specifically, i'd like than interface that writes the stations received
to postgresql.
are the interfaces modulised in this kind of way, or is my idea totally
flawed?
i had a look in the src dir, but there's a lot to digest. can someone
give me a pointer where to start?
