Stay tuned, I've started thinking about this (God help us all!).

I think it can be done without spawning another thread for map
drawing, but will take a bit of thought before coding it up in order
to make it all work as intended.

This feature is one of the most requested, plus I've been wanting it
for a long time too.

Wouldn't it be cool if SourceForge had a user-rating scheme for bugs
and feature requests, so that the most wanted things would rise in
priority? Maybe someone should suggest that to the SourceForge
powers-that-be?

I don't think we have a way to capture that sort of input on
SourceForge currently, so we just have to remember how often things
are asked for on the mailing lists.
