You can put xastir anyway you want by defining the path with
./configure --prefix=path I use /sw/ham/xastir but that's just me.
In the xastir directory you will see the maps sub directory, put your
maps there. Make sub directories for the different types, overlay,
filled, transparent or others of your choosing. Grab some MacAPRS maps

AX-25 is not supported in MacOS X. Maybe someone who has this modem
can help.
