[Xastir] ./configure doesnt find x11 libraries...

That's Ok... for me, it's not finding any of the adjunctive programs... 
GeoTiff, libtiff, ax25, GPSMan, etc.  It's finding shapelib, though.

I've gotta go back and make sure that the 'make install' commands really 
put code where they thought they did.
