[Xastir] Can't find ImageMagick lib

I re-installed RH9.0 today -

Installed all the IM packages: IM, devel, perl from the RH9.0 CDs -
"Can't find WriteImage in -lMagick."

Uninstalled all IM packages, got the 5.5.7-1 IM packages - wont install
because I don't have libexif.so - anybody know what that's from?

Installed 5.5.6 from the source; it barfed when it went to install the
perl modules because it didn't have a rule to make them. The rest
seemed to be OK. The libs were installed in /usr/local/lib. I added
them to ld.so.conf, and ldconfig'ed.

Back to Xastir: make distclean; make; make install-strip. Xastir comes
up, loads a Tiger map.

Now my problem: I can't set the background color to anything. The
white is really annoying. anybody got a clue on that one?

If anybody wants them, I do have script files from my efforts...
