[Xastir] maps

My biggest problem is maps.
I am currently running shapefile tigermap formats I go from
ftp.mapshots.com.  However, they are very slow to load if you use more
than a few counties.  And running with tigermaps installed to get online
maps is slow.

1.  how do I speed this up?
2.  where do I auto-get satellite and weather maps and put them in?  I
pulled down all the NWS maps and put them in the Counties directory as
specified in the FAQ.
