[Xastir] perl/php shapefile drawing...

Before I go out and reinvent the wheel does anybody know of a script in
perl or php that can take the NOAA county shapefiles and output an image
of the US with the counties drawn?

I know perl has a couple shapefile modules, so it shouldnt be too out of
the question.
