[Xastir] World shapefile map...solved!

That fixed it. It works out of the box. No funny business required, 
just:

 ./configure && make && make install

...and setting of the SUID flag on /usr/local/bin/xastir.

Having fired up xastir, I re-indexed the maps. Which made the World 
Shapefile map appear in the chooser.

It is impressive, and highly recommended.
