[Xastir] Design of vectorial maps

Hello,

I am living in Martinique (French west Indies) and there is no vectorial map 
ready to be used for my island.

So I would like to design a vectorial map to be used on Xastir.

The informations used to design the map will come from a GPS.

I tried to find a software on the net to do this but I don't succeed.

I will appreciate if you could give me some tracks to follow to succeed !
