Okay, so I got xastir to the point where it will compile and start on my Red Hat 9 system using the following libraries. However, now, xastir complains about _XMStrings having a different value in shared object and it can't find XtAddCallback. Sounds like a lesstiff problem, but a re-compile and re-install of lessTif didn't fix it. any other ideas?
