Install the AX.25 libraries, configure kernel AX.25 and use soundmodem. 
See the AX25-HOWTO for details.  

The kernel soundmodem driver only works with a limited number of
soundcards, but there is now a user-mode soundmodem which uses the same
soundcard driver you would use for audio.  You can find it at
