Hi Richard,
You could make a boot disk (rawrite from the first cd), it sometimes
helps with older laptops. Also you need plenty of RAM for RH9 to get it
installed.

There's a linux laptop howto document, or something similar. Do a
google search for "linux laptop" and you should find some good info.
