Could you point me at the sit where you're getting the data?  My bet is that
there is still something wrong with this step.

If the metadata in your working file isn't right for the broken ones, you
might still be getting the wrong thing.

The only time I have ever seen the compression/random access deal has been
when using DRGs that don't have UTM transformation parameters in them.
I would like to take a look at your info.txt file and a few representative
maps.
