[Xastir] usb to serial for gps

Hi All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000, which has no serial ports, running WinXP and
Cygwin, both patched current.

I have a USB to serial pigtail to download data from a Garmin CX12.

This lash-up works fine for older software such as G7to (DOS), G7toWin
(Win16?), but fails to get data with newer applications such as Xastir or
Fugawi.

Any notions as to what's going on?
