[Xastir] Map projection (Re: Breaking up shapefiles)

I'd recommend WGS-84, Lat/Lon ("unprojected" or cylindrical-equidistant).

Now:  Do we want to start talking about the ability to allow specific 
projections for different areas of the globe, user selectable?  There 
are benefits therein.  We can talk transverse mercator for areas at the 
mid-latitudes, mercator for fixed azimutal lines, equal area.  Proj-4 
will support the reprojections, and then we have to do the math on the 
fly... or a quickie proj scriptlet... to get the position reports in place.
