[Xastir] Xastir on Mepis - ttyS0 hard fail

As it turned out, the problem "mystery fixed" itself while  I was
talking to Jim.  I have no idea what caused the problem or what fixed
it.  Just that after many reboots and looking at various things it
finally started working.  Many thanks to you and Jim for helping me get
it working...
