[Xastir] xastir install

I downloaded xastir to my RedHat machine, did the steps as outlined and 
got the following:
   ./configure line 1684 AC_GNU_SOURCE: command not found
    checking for gcc....no
    checking for cc......no
    checking for cc......no
    checking for cl.......no
  configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $path.
I did find, I think, gcc on my system.
How about a little help.  This is a little more greek than usual.
