Erik,
First off I think you'll need to use the file "inf2geo.pl" in the
"scripts" directory to convert the ".inf" files associated with your
Ui-View maps to something Xastir can work with.
Second, do you have the Imagemagick-devel package installed? For each
of the packages you install under RedHat (in most cases) you'll need the
companion "-devel-" package. The "-devel-" packages contain the
required header files to compile new software which uses the functions
exported by the libraries of the other packages.
Did you follow the INSTALL file step-by-step to make sure you have all
the packages loaded up? I know that you can get tripped up pretty
easily by installing libgeotiff before libproj.
