Skip the auto maps thing.  Use the map properties/map levels stuff
to layer things the way you want and make them appear/disappear at
different zoom levels.

Organize in terms of topo/street/satellite directories and then you
can select/deselect things by directory.

dbfawk only works for Shapefiles currently, and not if you route
them through GDAL/OGR.

So... Labels/colors/line widths are not available yet if you use
GDAL/OGR.
