I've been wanting to expirement with APRS for a long time but until just
a week or two ago didn't have my radios together well enough to dive in.
Finally got some of my old 2meter rigs working again and thanks to the
advances in sound card packet I've been able to dive in full force!

Then I found Xastir and really got excited! Wow, so far this seems like
a far more fully featured package than any of the ones I've tried
requiring registration. I was able to get it up and running (in windows
no less) easier than the others as well. What surprised me was the
difficulty I had getting it to compile on my linux machine - but that
turned out to be my own stupid mistake (Still getting used to Debian
after years of using red hat!)

The only "problem" I've had is with the version I compiled on my Linux
box. For some reason I can't get it to reliably run on my linux machine
though a remote xserver on either of my windows machines. I usually use
Pexus systems Xdeep-32 server but it crashes almost instantly when I
start Xastir. Using Cygwins xserver I can get it to run for a few
minutes but eventually it crashes as well. So for now I'm just running
it natively under Cygwin but eventually I'll have to figure this out as
being able to run it from my linux box shared to both windows machines
would be ideal!

The one "feature" I either can't figure out after reading the docs or
would like to request is a way to do a station find from the station
list. Or other functions from the station lists. For example being
able to select a call from the list and then view their details or
center the map on them. Is there a way to do this already that I'm missing?
