Jay:  Just remembered now.   Slackware 9.1 has ImageMagick installed by 
default.  That is probably why you only got it showing up under ./configure.
If you want the other options for the various maps and such, I would suggest 
you have a look at the install instructions, they are very good.  Most of the 
other libraries are found on cd #2 under extra/ham.  They may not be the very 
latest, but they all work with latest xastir.

Hope that helps, but it sounds like you have other peculiarities as well.
