  It may be possible.  Last week, while searching for the proper
combination of libraries to view DVDs under Linux, I came across something
called aalib, which displays graphical data in 'ascii art' on a text-based
terminal.
  If they can do it with DVD movies, it ought to be possible with maps...

  One of my side diversions while at ham swapmeets, is the continuing
search for the ultimate mythical tweenie:  Waveguide to Fahnestock clip.
aalib seems to be evidence that software geeks also have a sense of the
sublimely ridiculous.
