The short answer is you could set LANG to another multibyte encoding, 
such as EN_US.  The long answer is Red Hat and packages based on the Red 
  Hat code (eg Fedora) do not define SUPPORT_ZERO_WIDTH in their earlier 
versions of Motif.  I believe, although I haven't had a chance to test 
these, that any version of openmotif later that 2.2.3-2 should have this 
resolved.
