I think just about all KISS TNCs drop out of KISS when the characters 
0xc0, 0xff, 0xc0 are sent to it using the right serial port speed (a 
part of the KISS specification?). Assuming of course that the TNC has 
other modes than just KISS..

Could this functionality be added to Xastir, i.e. the user could select 
an option in the serial kiss tnc properties dialog, which would send the 
three-byte string whenever the TNC interface is shut down. And perhaps 
there could be an initialization setting as well, so you could specify 
an "init string" like you had with land line modems, that would turn the 
TNC into KISS mode. That would be run whenever the interface is started.
