I remember doing some work on the KISS part of the code quite a
while back to fix this or a similar problem.  1.4.1 is getting
pretty old now.  We've been at 1.4.2 for some months.

Try one of the 1.4.2 devel snapshots or the CVS version to see if
the problem goes away.  I think it just might.
