Doing what Curt did I get 3 hours and 48 secs uptime versus 131.48 from TOP = 
131/180 = 72.7% cpu usage.   NOT GOOD

Pentium 111  600 mghz
512 meg ram
40 gig hard drive
Suse 9.0 Linux
XFCE3, no kde junk
top reports 514940k mem   489416k used
                 504464k swap    1508k used

Will try vmstat 5, and others metioned,,,, may ask for help on the diagnostics 
also.

Got a feeling I have hardware dying.  But like to prove it.  Anybody want to 
recommend a good linux memory checker etc.??
