Simple rules for making sudo work...

1.  edit /etc/sudoers so that the wheel group is granted privilege 
(there should be 2 different lines in there to accomplish this: one 
requires password entry [recommended] and the other does not [frought 
with danger]).

2.  Add yourself, and cautiously, anyone else who needs the access and 
whom you implicitly trust, to the wheel group by editting /etc/group (or 
using one of the GUI or command line tools designed to help mess up this 
operation.
