It certainly isn't a generic Debian problem--my copy works fine that
way, although after I inadvertantly trashed my /usr/local partition and
reinstalled the problem I had with it hanging when loading the online
terraserver map came back (I'm currently running Ubuntu, not pure 
Debian).
