I stand corrected. According to Lizardtech's developer program, you can
download free SDKs for Windows, Windows CE, Linux (2.4 kernel with gcc 3.2
and 2.6 kernel with gcc 3.4), Mac OS X (PPC with Gcc 3.3 and PPC+x86
with gcc 4.0), and Slowlaris.
Properly installed with gdal built against it, it means you could use
gdal_translate to uncompress MrSIDs into geotiff or anything else.
