For all of your information, I list the entire set of packages that are 
needed to build xastir from source on Ubuntu 6.10 on the xastir wiki page
<http://www.xastir.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo:Ubuntu_6.10>
This includes the OpenMotif package, and describes how to switch from
lesstif to openmotif if you've already installed xastir with the other library.

It is rather straightforward, but there are a lot of packages to download.
