Well, that's *damn* peculiar, Spock.

You say that Xastir bombs saying that the DB headers are from 4.4-x and 
the libraries are from 4.5, but you don't *have* any 4.4 headers.  The
db.h file you found is the only relevant one.

Could you email to me privately and attach your config.log file, please?  Also
cut/paste the actual error message that Xastir produces when you try to 
start it (the one with the complaint).
