No text on slider menus is usually due to the openMotif bug.  2.3
versions have it - 2.2 versions don't.    Is it possible that your
version of openMotif could have changed before compiling the 7-6-08
CVS version of Xastir?  I have heard of issues with Lesstif as well,
but I am not sure if the missing text on slider menus is one of them.
A simple Help / About will show whether Lesstif or openMotif is being
used by Xastir and also what version.
