[Xastir] GPS waypoint question

I guess I am missing the point too.

I understand the purpose of the GPWPL string is to display data (received
waypoints) on a system that includes only a radio and GPS, such as Kenwood
TH-D7 and Garmin GPS V.

If I have Xastir running, or other APRS software that has mapping, then the
received waypoints can be displayed there already.

So I guess my question is: why do I need to read the GPWPL sentence with
Xastir?

One of the purposes of Xastir is to cover the needs of SAR. In that
environment, the command center is capable of seeing the resources at it's
disposal on a big monitor, not the dinky little GPS screen.

Please enlighten me.

Best regards,
Fred
