Linux or Mac?  That command has to be run as root.  On my system
it's "/sbin/ldconfig".

I can already tell that you're linking against the static version
'cuz of the error messages, but on my Linux 64-bit box I found the
Motif libraries here:

     /usr/lib64/libXm*

They could be in /usr/lib/, /usr/X11R6/lib, /usr/X11R6/lib/Xm/,
perhaps other places.
