Usability is what's missing. This is my experience and your mileage may 
differ.
After literally years of trying I have never got "soundmodem" to work in 
either AX25 kernel or userspace mode.
AGWPE on the otherhand "just works" For those portable occasions such as 
WICEN exercises I have an OLD Toshiba lappy who's sole job is to run 
UIview with AGWPE. and I might add, thats about all it's capable of... 
BTW, runs HF packet just fine too.
