Yes, technically it compiles on Solaris and makes a binary that runs, 
but for all the effort I put into it, I never got a good clear quality 
signal out of the sound card.  It always seemed that the frequency was 
off.  I could set speakers side by side one connected to the U30 and one 
to a PC and they didn't sound the same.   That telling Solaris to 
generate a 6khz tone (or whatever was needed) was different from it 
actually doing it.  I was never able to get it to work right. 

On the other hand, as it creates all the KISS networking you need to 
connect directly to Xastir, it was a great idea.

As for saving hardware, you still need to have a PTT trigger mechanism, 
whether it is a Rascal or something similar, so if the difference was 
having a rascal between the computer and the radio or having a TNC and 
the radio, I didn't see any difference between the two.

The U30 is turned off now, and I don't plan on bringing it back soon, so 
no work on that puppy.
