I've always had trouble with the Keyspan drivers unless I use one of  
the "cu" variants. If I use the tty it always locks up. Try using /dev/ 
cu.usb232path or similar. On my system the driver is: "/dev/ 
cu.USA19QW62P1.1". On my other system it is very similar.
