Common problem.  You should configure using the Debian or Ubuntu flags
that compensate for the corrected location of libgeotiff files.

CFLAGS=-I/usr/include/geotiff ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --mandir=/usr/share/man

It has also been said that you could install libgeotiff from sources in
order to undo the location changes made by Debian, but this would break
anything else on your system using libgeotiff.
