I've put a copy of Xastir for MacOS X on my site at http://www.nh6z.net/xastir
. It has been packaged as an .app bundle, so you should just have to
open up the dmg, and drag the icon to your applications folder. You'll
need to have Apple's X11 installed. I've only tested this on Snow
Leopard, as I don't have any Leopard installations around anymore, but
it should work on Leopard. This is *NOT* a universal binary, and will
only work on Intel Macs. It's the latest version, 1.9.6. It's
compiled with the following options:

MINIMUM OPTIONS:
ShapeLib (Vector maps) ................. : yes (internal)

RECOMMENDED OPTIONS:
-n GraphicsMagick/ImageMagick (Raster maps) :
yes (ImageMagick)
pcre (Shapefile customization) ......... : yes
dbfawk (Shapefile customization) ....... : yes
rtree indexing (Shapefile speedups) .... : yes
map caching (Raster map speedups) ...... : no
internet map retrieval ................. : yes (libcurl)

FOR THE ADVENTUROUS:
  AX25 (Linux Kernel I/O Drivers) ........ : no
libproj (USGS Topos & Aerial Photos) ... : yes
GeoTiff (USGS Topos & Aerial Photos) ... : yes
  Festival (Text-to-speech) .............. : no
  GDAL/OGR (Obtuse map formats) .......... : yes
  GPSMan/gpsmanshp (GPS downloads) ....... : no

It's not my prettiest piece of work ever, so if you decide to throw
stones, don't throw them too hard.
