That's the one.  Could you see if the issue is resolved by pressing the
Num Lock key on your keyboard ... once.

(This should cause your xev output to say "state 0x0" for mouse button
presses ... but it might not fix your cut and paste problem.  Num Lock
isn't exactly rare, so I would have thought it was tested properly).
