[Xastir] differences between postGIS and postgres?

Jason,

postGIS is an add-on to postgres that imparts GIS functionality.  You'll create
a database and then run a script to import postGIS for that database. For the
most part, you'll reference GIS functionality using postGIS functions in your
SQL queries.
