I recently received this message from another xastir user abouut tiger maps

Thank you for your inquiry. We have discontinued the
Tiger Mapping Service as it has become outdated. Currently, there are
no plans to restore or update this type of service. We recommend using
our interactive mapping tools found in American Factfinder or you can use theTIGER/Line Shapefiles if you already have GIS software. 

If you have any questions about the mapping tools in
American Factfinder or how to find  census data, please call
1-800-923-8282. Questions about the TIGER/Line Shapefiles can be sent
to geo.tiger at census.gov.
