How are you connecting your radio to the computer? Through a USB<->Serial
adapter? How are you setting up your interface in Xastir?
The Kenwood is easy to get working, once you know what serial port it's
hooked up to. Open the interface control menu, select "Serial TNC with GPS on
AUX port", tell it the serial port device (e.g. /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyUSB0 or
whatever), set the baud rate (should be 9600 for the D700), choose
"8,N,1" for port style, and use "tnc-startup.d700" and "tnc-stop.d700" for
TNC setup and shutdown filenames, respectively. Should Just Work, and
the D700 should switch to PKT mode when you start up the interface in Xastir.
If you're already doing that, what is happening that tells you the program
can't see the radio?
