Steve,

Correct about Isadora. Linux Mint Debian is based on the latest Debian
testing repositories and is intended as a rolling release to avoid the
'fresh install' syndrome with 'Buntu based distros.

Being a Debian user from the mid 90's, I was keen to give it a try and
once I got over my years old dislike of Gnome, I found LMDE quite
respectable although it's not as user ready as 'Buntu based Mint.
However, LMDE is very young and I have no doubt it will get up to speed.
I installed it on a P3 700MHz desktop with 768M RAM, a P4 3GHz desktop
with 1G RAM and, on an old Acer Travelmate with a 2.4GHz processor and
1.2GB RAM. In all cases LMDE loaded more quickly than Mint 9 KDE on
those machines. USB didn't work 'out of the box' on the laptop and
that's just an observation, not criticism. I think LMDE looks promising.
