Well yeah, hence the "can speak NMEA" qualification.

I'm no Garmin expert, but in my experience if a Garmin has an RS232
interface it speaks NMEA.  There are certainly Garmin units that don't
speak NMEA, but since they don't have RS232 interfaces it's a moot
point.
