Are you sure that the file is in the correct path?
You have to manually set the TH-D72 in TNC mode.

Start xastir.
Under Interface Controll add a new "interface".
Select i.e serial TNC
select the correct serialport i.e /dev/ttyUSB0
Baudrate 9600
TNC Setup Filename: tnc-startup.xxx (whatever file you are using)

Press View Incoming Data
And then press "Start" when you have selected the interface.

You should see the commands been activated by the TH-D72 and you are
probably going to see some ?EH
Also check the terminal window where you started xastir and/or the error
logs.

This should work without any problems as long as you are using the USB
cable.

The TH-D72 and TH-D7 is to good to be downgraded to a soundcard setup.
